Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has dismissed rumours linking the north London club with a move for Sporting Lisbon striker Yannick Djalo.

The highly-rated Portuguese has been the subject of intense transfer speculation in recent weeks and the player’s agent, Lionel da Silva, claimed White Hart Lane was his most likely destination.

But Redknapp claims reports of a possible bid are wide of the mark.

“It’s not true,” he told reporters after Spurs’ 1-0 win against Benfica in Lisbon on Tuesday night.

“I believe he’s a good player, but he is not and never has been in our plans.”

Djalo featured as Spurs and Sporting drew 2-2 in a recent friendly in New York.

Sporting Lisbon have confirmed an agreement to sell defensive midfielder Miguel Veloso to Serie A club Genoa in a £7.5million deal.

However, Sporting have ensured they receive maximum compensation for the Portugal star by including several conditions in the contract, according to a club statement published on the Portuguese stock exchange (CMVM).

The Portuguese giants will be paid a further €500,000 (£415,000) by Genoa if the Italian club qualify for a group phase of a UEFA-affiliated tournament, such as the Champions League or the Europa League.

And if 24-year-old Veloso is sold on for a price exceeding €10m (£8.3m), Sporting “have the right to receive 20 percent of the profits”.

Sporting had agreed to sell Veloso on Friday, when the outfit also revealed the signing of Spanish midfielder Alberto Zapater from Genoa.

In the statement on Tuesday, Sporting said they had “definitively acquired the rights to Alberto Zapater for two million euros”.

Yannick Djalo could be set to shun interest from Italy in order to join Tottenham, according to the Sporting Lisbon striker’s agent.

The Sporting Lisbon striker has attracted plenty of admirers this summer and is tipped to be on the move before the summer transfer window slams shut.

His has options to consider, with a number of Serie A clubs believed to be monitoring his situation.

However, the 24-year-old is said to favour a switch to England is prepared to hold out for a Premier League move.

That will please the likes of Tottenham, who it is claimed are in the running for Djalo’s signature.

His representative believes an agreement to take his client to White Hart Lane is likely and expects a deal to be struck sooner rather than later.

“I believe Yannick will not play in Italy,” said Lionel da Silva.

“He is a player who is wanted in England and Tottenham looks like the most likely destination.”

While Spurs have made no secret of their desire to add this summer, any move for Djalo would see them acquire a player who would be unavailable to them in Europe as he has already turned out for Sporting in the Europa League qualifiers.

Genoa have agreed a deal to sign midfielder Miguel Veloso from Sporting Lisbon, the Portuguese club have confirmed.

The 24-year-old Veloso has been the subject of transfer speculation during every transfer window for the past several seasons, and found himself linked with some of the top clubs in Europe including several in England.

Sporting resisted each time, but have now agreed a deal that will see Alberto Zapater move in the opposite direction.

“Sporting have reached an agreement in principle with Genoa for the transfer of Miguel Veloso and the acquisition of Alberto Zapater, with the consent of both players,” a statement from Sporting said.

Veloso has 14 caps for Portugal, and made two appearances at the World Cup in South Africa this summer.
