Coyle confident in current squad
Bolton boss Owen Coyle would be delighted to strengthen his squad with more signings before Tuesday’s transfer deadline but has confidence in the players already at his disposal.
Coyle has already signed up five new players this summer, with Martin Petrov and Robbie Blake both arriving on free transfers, Marcos Alonso bought from Real Madrid, young striker Tom Eaves snapped up from Oldham and Ivan Klasnic secured on a permanent deal following his loan spell last season.
There were hopes that Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere would be brought back on loan again after a successful period last season but neither this nor a proposed similar deal for Manchester United’s Tom Cleverley have yet to come to fruition.
“We would love to strengthen – you ask any manager up and down the country, and they will tell you the same thing,” Coyle said.
“This pre-season has been difficult. Some years it is easier than others to build teams, purely down to finance. But we don’t moan about it.
“I think it would be fair to say we won’t have a 25-man squad (to submit to the Premier League next week), but whoever I ask to play and wear the shirt, they will do it with pride.
“I’d have absolutely no fears about the squad that we have got.
“We’d love to get one or two to help them, but if not, we will get on with it and we will do our utmost to win each and every game we enter into.”
Bolton made enquiries about United youngster Cleverley earlier this summer but Sir Alex Ferguson was reluctant to allow the promising midfielder to leave.
“I am loath to speak about other teams’ players, I always am, but Tom Cleverley is a terrific player,” said Coyle.
“He is a very talented young player. We made an enquiry before Manchester United went (on a pre-season tour) to America regarding Tom coming on loan, and Sir Alex said at that time that he would think about it.
“They came back from America, the lad had been terrific on the tour and they decided they would hold onto him, which I totally understand.
“If that changes between now and Tuesday, that is a different situation.
“As it is, I’ve not heard that to be the case, but if it changes then I will let you know.”
Bolton will look to continue their decent start to the season at home to Birmingham on Sunday. Match betting has the Wanderers at 2.10, the draw at 3.30 and Birmingham at 3.60.

Van Gaal thrilled despite defeat
Bayern Munich coach Louis van Gaal is delighted with the progress his side is making despite Friday night’s friendly defeat to Real Madrid.
The defending Bundesliga champions beat Schalke to win the German Super Cup last weekend and are in DFB-Pokal action on Monday night before kicking off the Bundesliga season at home to Wolfsburg next Friday.
But last night saw Iker Casillas save three penalties – one in normal time and two in the shootout – to earn Jose Mourinho’s side a 4-2 penalty shootout victory after the friendly, a testimonial for honorary president Franz Beckenbauer, had ended goalless.
Despite the adverse result, Van Gaal could not be happier with his team’s performance.
“I saw a fantastic team out there,” he beamed afterwards.
“We controlled the game and tired Real Madrid out. We had numerous chances to score.
“Compared to the game against Schalke, we had different players on the field, yet we showed the same performance and that is amazing.”
Van Gaal had predicted a difficult start to the season for his side since 10 members of his squad only returned to pre-season training less than a fortnight ago following the World Cup, but he now seems satisfied all his players are up to speed.
And he has vowed to field his strongest team against sixth-division side Germania Windeck in the cup on Monday.

I can leave Wigan – N’Zogbia
Wigan winger Charles N’Zogbia has revealed that the club will not stand in his way if a bigger club wants to acquire his services.
N’Zogbia joined Wigan in January 1999, when he angered fans of Newcastle by voicing his desire to play at a higher level.
And the 24-year-old is keen to take another step upwards in his footballing career.
“When I came here, I was in a period where I wanted to relaunch myself,” N’Zogbia told L’Equipe. “Today I’m at Wigan but if tomorrow a good club with great aims contacts me, I am open.
“I have talked about it with my bosses. They won’t put a spoke in the wheel.”
Despite their apparent willingness to sell Wigan will still hope to have N’Zogbia available for their first game of the season at home to Blackpool on 14th August.
Full Time Result betting has Wigan at 1.80, while Blackpool can be backed at 4.33 and the draw is 3.25.
Following the entire France World Cup squad being suspended for their friendly against Norway next month, N’Zogbia has been selected by new coach Laurent Blanc for the match.
Should he win his first cap, it would put an end to talk of him playing for England.
He continued: “They talked about me (playing for England) but for me it’s just something in the press.
“Until the moment someone at the Federation comes and talks to me about it face to face, I haven’t even asked myself the question.
“In my head I’m French. There’s no reflection to make.”
Wigan are 3.25 to be relegated from the Barclays Premier League 2010/11.
