Ben Arfa prepared to miss full season

Newcastle target Hatem Ben Arfa claims he will not play again for current employers Marseille as he bids to force through a move.

The France international has refused to train with OM, though he played 34 minutes of the opening Ligue 1 clash of the season against Caen and club president Jean-Claude Dassier insisted earlier this week he “remains part of the workforce”.

Ben Arfa has other ideas, though, even if it means writing off his season.

He told L’Equipe: “I will not return to La Commanderie (OM’s training ground). It’s over. I am ready to not play this season. I have my pride, my dignity. I am not a stop-gap.

“Over time, people will see that I was right. Just because we are paid does not mean we are slaves.”

The 23-year-old put himself in the shop window on Wednesday as part of Laurent Blanc’s shadow France squad, scoring a stunning long-range goal within three minutes of his introduction at half-time against Norway.

Tigana reign off to losing start

Jean Tigana suffered a losing start to his reign as Bordeaux boss as Garry Bocaly’s goal earned Montpellier a 1-0 win in their Ligue 1 opener.

Tigana took over from Laurent Blanc this summer after the man who led them to the 2008/09 Ligue 1 title left to become France coach.

But his first league game in charge did not go to plan as full-back Bocaly scored a minute into the second half to earn Montpellier victory at Stade de la Mosson.

The visitors carved out the game’s first chance, Wendel firing wide with a left-footed strike, while at the other end Olivier Giroud headed Souleymane Camara’s cross narrowly wide.

Montpellier were Ligue 1′s surprise package last season. They were only promoted to the top flight the previous year but stayed in the title hunt for much of the campaign before finishing fifth, one place and five points ahead of their opponents.

But they were almost behind after 12 minutes as Wendel made ground down the left and picked out Benoit Tremoulinas, but his instant volley smacked against a post.

Montpellier’s Marco Estrada then had an effort deflected behind by Bordeaux goalkeeper Kevin Olimpa.

But Olimpa was beaten just after the restart as Estrada released Bocaly, who got to the ball ahead of defender Alou Diarra and steered it into the net.

Yoan Gouffran was denied by a block from home goalkeeper Geoffrey Jourdren and Wendel sent a free-kick just wide as Bordeaux sought out an equaliser, but it did not come.

I can leave Wigan – N’Zogbia

Wigan winger Charles N’Zogbia has revealed that the club will not stand in his way if a bigger club wants to acquire his services.

N’Zogbia joined Wigan in January 1999, when he angered fans of Newcastle by voicing his desire to play at a higher level.

And the 24-year-old is keen to take another step upwards in his footballing career.

“When I came here, I was in a period where I wanted to relaunch myself,” N’Zogbia told L’Equipe. “Today I’m at Wigan but if tomorrow a good club with great aims contacts me, I am open.

“I have talked about it with my bosses. They won’t put a spoke in the wheel.”

Despite their apparent willingness to sell Wigan will still hope to have N’Zogbia available for their first game of the season at home to Blackpool on 14th August.

Full Time Result betting has Wigan at 1.80, while Blackpool can be backed at 4.33 and the draw is 3.25.

Following the entire France World Cup squad being suspended for their friendly against Norway next month, N’Zogbia has been selected by new coach Laurent Blanc for the match.

Should he win his first cap, it would put an end to talk of him playing for England.

He continued: “They talked about me (playing for England) but for me it’s just something in the press.

“Until the moment someone at the Federation comes and talks to me about it face to face, I haven’t even asked myself the question.

“In my head I’m French. There’s no reflection to make.”

Wigan are 3.25 to be relegated from the Barclays Premier League 2010/11.

N’Zogbia: Latics won’t stand in my way

Wigan winger Charles N’Zogbia has revealed he has been told the club will not stand in his way if he wishes to leave for better things.

N’Zogbia joined Wigan in January 2009, after nearly five seasons at Newcastle, angering the St James’ Park faithful by voicing his desire to play at a higher level.

N’Zogbia is one of the players to have been pre-selected by France coach Laurent Blanc for the friendly against Norway, with the entire 23-man World Cup squad ruled out through suspension.

Deschamps calls for Blanc backing

Marseille coach Didier Deschamps has urged his fellow Ligue 1 managers to unite to help the France team overcome its “disastrous” image.

Deschamps won 103 caps for Les Bleus and, along with new France boss Laurent Blanc, was an integral part of the side which lifted the World Cup in 1998 and the European Championships two years later.

The former France captain is expecting a different regime under Blanc following the difficult Raymond Domenech era which culminated in Les Bleus’ dismal World Cup campaign.

“I didn’t have any relationship at all (with Domenech), like the majority of my colleagues,” Deschamps told L’Equipe.

“Above the fact that we know each other, that we call each other, Laurent has a different approach.

“We will adapt, we will give him information.

“This relationship between club and country is fundamental, it goes even further than the physical and medical domain.

“There are important information, this has to happen in the best way possible in a common interest, even if sometimes the interest of Les Bleus is the opposite of that of the clubs.”

Les Bleus crashed out of the World Cup amid controversy as they managed only one point and one goal from three games in Group A and were left in disarray when the squad refused to train two days before their final game against hosts South Africa in protest at the decision to send Nicolas Anelka home.

The fallout from the fiasco rumbles on as Blanc has banned all 23 members of the World Cup squad for next month’s friendly against Norway.

Deschamps has slammed the current mentality among the players.

“The image of Les Bleus is disastrous,” he added. “What I saw there is insupportable to me.

“Certain values have the tendency to disappear.

“In my career, Les Bleus, well, it was sacred. From the first to the 103rd selection, captain or not, I knew that I was privileged.”
