Poulsen looking to build relationship
Liverpool midfielder Christian Poulsen says that he need to play more games with Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres before the Anfield club will see the best of him.
The Denmark international expects that the club’s busy schedule to help, after he played alongside the dynamic duo for the first time during the 1-0 win over West Brom at the weekend.
He acknowledges being in a team with Torres and Gerrard involves certain requirements.
“I feel comfortable here. The match against West Brom was the first game with Fernando and the captain so you have to learn how they want the ball,” he said.
“Fernando is a strong player and can do things at speed and can do things one against one.
“You also feel Steven and Fernando have a good eye for each other and you saw that against West Brom – I hope it will get even better.”
Poulsen also believes that he will benefit from a run in the first team having not had much game time since the World Cup with Denmark.
“When I came here I had not played since the World Cup so I feel I need some time to get into the rhythm,” added the 30-year-old, a summer arrival from Juventus.
“But last Thursday (in the second leg against Trabzonspor) I did better than in the first game.
“We have a lot of games so with Javier Mascherano and Alberto Aquilani leaving we need quality players for the team because for the next six months we will have a game every four days.
“It is important for a club who wants to play at the top of the Premier League and fighting for the Europa League to have strong players.
“I hope after the international break we can come strong again and pick up a lot of points up in the coming months.”
Liverpool’s next match is at St Andrews in the Premier League on Sunday 12th September. Full Time Result betting has the home side at 3.20, with Liverpool 2.10 and the draw 3.30.

Grant eyes United upset

West Ham manager Avram Grant is eyeing an upset at Old Trafford this afternoon claiming that “anything can happen” in football.
The Hammers have endured a difficult start to the season conceding six goals in successive defeats to Aston Villa and Bolton.

The better team does not always win. We need to do a few things to make their lives difficult.
Avram Grant
And with their next four fixtures being Manchester United, Chelsea, Stoke away and Tottenham, they could quite conceivably have no points after six games.
Match betting for today’s clash has Man Utd strongly fancied at 1.14, while West Ham are massive outsiders at 19.00 and it is 8.00 that the match is drawn.
But Grant is convinced West Ham are ready to rise to the challenge.
“Manchester United will not have an easy life tomorrow night,” he vowed.
“They are a good team and they have top players. Not only Wayne Rooney and Javier Hernandez but also Dimitar Berbatov and Paul Scholes, who I think becomes younger every year.
“At the moment they are the best players in England. Manchester United are a better team than West Ham – but I believe in football anything can happen.
“The better team does not always win. We need to do a few things to make their lives difficult.
“One thing I don’t want is for us to give up before the game, nor in the game. I always say to my players to be positive.
“It is a big challenge. If you don’t take a hard situation as a challenge you cannot succeed, not in sport, not in life.”
Last time out in the Premier League West Ham were beaten 3-1 at home to Bolton, but Grant believes West Ham were the better team which reinforces his point that Manchester United are not invincible.
Grant said: “I see the players in training every day and I’m confident we can do something.
“We didn’t play well in the first game but in the second game we played good football. We deserved to win – but there is no ‘deserve’ in football.
“Manchester United are a good team, yes, but football is football.”

Gallas sets sights on title
William Gallas believes his new club Tottenham have what it takes to win the Barclays Premier League this season.
Tottenham are currently 34.00 to win the Premier League outright, they face stern competition from reigning champions Chelsea who are priced at 2.20 to retain the title.
Gallas signed a one-year contract at Spurs to become the most high-profile player to cross the north London divide since Sol Campbell.
The 33-year-old believes it would not be impossible to bring the Premier League trophy to White Hart Lane this term.
“Finishing fourth last season shows Spurs have improved a lot and I hope this season we are going to finish even higher, maybe even win the Premier League,” Gallas told his new club’s official website, www.tottenhamhotspur.com.
“We just have to believe in ourselves. We have got young players with great quality.
“They just have to believe in their capacity to do something and I hope we can achieve this.”
Gallas, who is two weeks away from being match fit, trained with his new team-mates yesterday.
He added: “I just want to be fit as soon as possible, train with my team-mates and play matches. I want to show everybody I am still here.”
Gallas will miss tomorrow night’s must-win Champions League clash with Young Boys but will feature if Tottenham overturn a 3-2 play-off round deficit and progress to the group stage.
Full Time Result betting for the clash has Tottenham at 1.22 to win in 90 minutes, Young Boys can be backed at 11.00 while the draw is 6.50.
“Spurs are ready for the Champions League, even though they lost the first game,” said Gallas, who has played in Europe’s premier club competition for the past seven seasons.
“It is the best level to play at as you are up against the biggest teams and you can show how good you are.
“The atmosphere is so great. When you hear the music, you just want to get on the pitch and battle for 90 minutes, and it would be good for Spurs.”
Tottenham are still sweating over the fitness of a number of key players.
Jermain Defoe (groin) looks set to return but Luka Modric (groin), Roman Pavyluchenko (ankle), Giovani dos Santos (hamstring) and Robbie Keane (knee) all remain doubtful.
It’s 1.22 that Tottenham progress to the group stages of the Champions league and 4.00 they are eliminated.

Premiership debutants preparing to line up
Two players will make debuts for new teams in this weekend’s Barclays Premier League action.
Israeli defender Dekel Keinan looks likely to make his debut for Blackpool on Saturday against Arsenal after completing his move to the Barclays Premier League newcomers this week.
After surprising Wigan in their first game in the top flight for 39 years with a 4-0 assault, the Tangerines are 19.00 to beat Arsenal at the Emirates. The Gunners are 1.16 to claim all three points, with a draw available at odds of 7.00.
Blackpool goalkeeper Paul Rachubka is sidelined after having an operation on his knee, as is striker Jason Euell. Keith Southern (knee), Louis Almond (shoulder) and Billy Clarke (knee) are all longer-term absentees.
Meanwhile new signing Matt Derbyshire will make his Birmingham debut in their match against Blackburn at St Andrew’s.
The former Rovers striker joined the Blues this week from Greek side Olympiacos on a season-long loan.
Birmingham are 2.60 to win the match in 90 minutes, with the visiting side 3.40 to emerge victorious. For the match to end in a draw is currently 3.25. Derbyshire is 8.00 to score first against his former side.
Nikola Zigic caught the eye in coming off the bench in the 2-2 draw at Sunderland last week, and will also be pushing for a start up front, while Kevin Phillips (thigh) is the only definite absentee.

Potters get Jones injury boost
Stoke have received a boost with the news that Striker Kenwyne Jones will be out for just a matter of days after suffering only minor ligament damage to his right ankle.
Jones limped out of Stoke’s first game of the season at Wolves on Saturday and there were fears that their record signing could face a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
The £8million man has undergone a series of scans and X-rays to assess the extent of the injury and manager Tony Pulis breathed a sigh of relief after hearing the results.
He said: “The news is as good as we could have expected in the circumstances. We were obviously very concerned about the extent of the damage.
“But the tests have shown only minor ligament damage. We will assess Kenwyne’s progress over the next few days so it is hard to say how long he will be out. We are talking days, though, not weeks or months.”
Stoke’s next match is against Tottenham on Saturday at the Britannia Stadium but whether Jones will be considered remains to be seen.
Full Time Result betting for the match has The Potters available at 3.80, while Spurs can be backed at 2.00 and the draw is 3.40.
