Ranieri ready for new Roma deal

Roma coach Claudio Ranieri is keen to pledge his future to the Giallorossi so he can “continue this adventure” with the Serie A club.

Ranieri, who guided Roma to finish runners-up in Serie A last season, is under contract with the Eternal City outfit until June 2011.

“I will renew my contract but I am not in a hurry,” said Ranieri.

“There’s no urgency. Soon everything will be done.”

The former Chelsea manager joined Roma in September 2009 and is satisfied with the experience so far.

“Rome is my city,” said Ranieri. “There is a project at Roma and I am proud that (club president Rosella) Sensi included me in it.

“I want to continue this adventure with Roma.”

Terriers face Naysmith wait

Huddersfield are waiting to learn the timescale of Gary Naysmith’s injury after being told the defender requires surgery.

The Scotland international sustained a toe injury in last month’s 5-1 Carling Cup defeat at Everton and has missed the last two matches.

Terriers manager Lee Clark has confirmed Naysmith, 31, needs an operation, but is still waiting for the specialist’s report.

Huddersfield pulled off a coup when Naysmith opted to drop down a division to join them on a free transfer this summer instead of renewing his contract at Sheffield United.

But his loss has been softened by the form of teenager Liam Ridehalgh, who has impressed against Charlton and Bournemouth after stepping in as cover.

Hildebrand makes Sporting switch

Former Hoffenheim goalkeeper Timo Hildebrand has signed a contract with Portuguese giants Sporting until June 2013.

The seven-time Germany international has moved to Portugal on a Bosman transfer after he had cancelled his contract with Hoffenheim in the summer.

Hildebrand, 31, is excited by the challenge of playing for Europa League participants Sporting.

He told Kicker: “I am extremely pleased to see this finally being agreed. I am now aware of my future.

“I am looking forward to representing Sporting. It is a really big club in a good league.”

Hildebrand had joined Hoffenheim on a free transfer from Primera Liga outfit Valencia in January 2009.

Zaliukas unsure of Hearts future

Hearts captain Marius Zaliukas admits his Tynecastle future is uncertain amid an impasse over his contract negotiations with Vladimir Romanov.

The defender met Romanov in Kaunas ahead of Lithuania’s Euro 2012 qualifier against Scotland but failed to reach agreement.

However, he insists he wants to remain at Tynecastle after December, when his FBK Kaunas contract and Hearts loan deal expires.

The centre-back rebuffed reports he had demanded £20,000 per week to sign for Hearts but he and Romanov have yet to find a mutually agreeable figure.

“We had a chat but nothing was solved,” Zaliukas said.

“Now that I’m the captain of course I’m enjoying it over there but we will see what is going to be.”

Zaliukas may have played his last Hearts game as manager Jim Jefferies only used Jose Goncalves in an emergency last season after the Portuguese defender rejected a contract offer.

Zaliukas said: “This is football, I need to deal with everything that comes my way.”

Hearts manager Jim Jefferies had speculated that Zaliukas might be engineering a move after being told both parties were “miles apart” in their figures.

“He said he was happy here. He said if he could get the deal he was looking for, he’d be happy to stay,” Jefferies told the Edinburgh Evening News.

“But there’s a big difference between what he’s looking for and what teams can afford, that seems to be what’s holding it up.

“Sometimes players don’t want to stay and they can maybe ask for quite a lot more knowing they’ve got no chance of getting it.”

Rosenberg joins Racing on loan

Markus Rosenberg has joined Racing Santander on loan from Werder Bremen, but extended his contract with the German club before leaving.

The 28-year-old has signed a new contract to remain in Bremen until 2012, adding one year to his previous commitment, but will spend the rest of the season in Spain.

Rosenberg missed almost all of last season as he fell out of favour after injury, but he is eager to prove himself with the club once again.

“This is a good solution for all parties,” said general manager Klaus Allofs. “Markus will get regular match practice, which despite his improving form we might not have been able to give him as we go for Champions League qualification.

“We are sure that he will succeed in Spain and demonstrate his quality again.”

Rosenberg added: “With this situation, it gives me a clear goal. I’m sure I’ll come back even stronger.”

Rosenberg joined Bremen in 2007 from Ajax.

The Sweden international has scored 30 goals in 90 appearances for Bremen.
