Vaughan set for Toffees loan exit
Everton boss David Moyes is set to allow out-of-favour striker James Vaughan go out on loan so he can get some first-team football.
Vaughan, who had loan spells with Championship sides Derby and Leicester last season, is a target for Sheffield United and Burnley, according to the Daily Mirror.
And the newspaper reports that Moyes wants to send the player out on loan ahead of a permanent exit from Goodison Park.
Vaughan has struggled to establish himself in the Toffees’ first-team and is behind the likes of Louis Saha, Yakubu and Jermaine Beckford in the pecking order.
The loan window for Football League clubs opens next week and the player is set to join a Championship club.

Waghorn happy to make Foxes switch
Martyn Waghorn is looking forward to starting afresh with Leicester after claiming he wasn’t given a chance at boyhood club Sunderland.
The 20-year-old striker joined the Foxes in a £3million deal on transfer deadline day last week, returning to the club where he finished as 12-goal top scorer at the end of a season-long loan spell last term which saw the Championship side reach the play-off semi-finals.
Waghorn was keen to put that first-team experience to good use when he returned to Wearside, but instead the arrivals of Danny Welbeck and Asamoah Gyan have seen him slip further down the pecking order than ever.
And that meant he jumped at the chance to rejoin Leicester, this time on a permanent basis.
“It wasn’t that much of a wrench having to leave,” the South Shields-born frontman told the Newcastle Evening Chronicle. “It was just sad they didn’t give me a chance and I didn’t get a fair crack of the whip.
“It was sad to be leaving after 13 years at the club but it has happened and I have to move on now. That’s football.
“I am at Leicester now and I’m there for the next four years, so hopefully I can do a job for the club. Steve Bruce called me and told me what was going on so it was nice to get that phone call.
“It is nice to have heard that the fans cared – it is a shame I didn’t get to show them an awful lot.”

Fortune confident West Brom can avoid drop

Marc-Antoine Fortune insists West Brom are in a much better position to avoid relegation than they were two years ago.
Fortune re-signed for the club on Friday after spending time there on loan during their disappointing 2008/09 season in the top-flight.

We have new players now and we’re ready.
Marc-Antoine Fortune
He said that the team stood a better chance of avoiding relegation this time around.
West Brom are 2.10 to be relegated from the Premier League this season while Blackpool remain fancied at 1.33 to make an instant return to the Championship.
“We know the mistakes we made,” Fortune said.
“We have new players now and we’re ready. It will be difficult but if we don’t give up we’ll be okay.”
Fortune says one of the main reasons for his confidence is head coach Roberto Di Matteo and his tougher training regime.
“The gaffer has a different way of managing the team (to Tony Mowbray),” he said.
“I’ve only been here for one week, but I can see that the way we train and the way the manager wants to play is different.
“We have to be at 100% every training session. If we train hard like that we can be ready for every game.
“We also know that we have to be good defensively. We made mistakes in the past that we have to avoid now.”
Midfielder Paul Scharner, a veteran of five Premier League seasons with Wigan, said that avoiding relegation is as much mental as it is physical.
On West Brom’s last season in the Premier League, he said: “Maybe the belief was missing.
“Most of the small teams, they don’t believe that they can get something out of the big stages.
Scharner added that he hoped to bring more mental strength to the club.
“To stay in the division it’s one of the biggest points,” he said.
“It’s time to roll up our sleeves and fight to stay in the league.”
Di Matteo said that Fortune and Scharner will add to the top-flight know-how in his squad.
“They will bring quality to our team, and some experience as well,” he said.
“They have both played in the Premiership before.
“We were looking to strengthen down the spine of our team, and I think with these two players we have managed to do that.”
The Baggies are next in action on Saturday 11th September when they host Tottenham. Full Time Result betting has West Brom at 3.75 to pick up all three points, Spurs are on offer at 1.90 while the draw is 3.25.

Arshavin: Effective but not sparkling
Andrey Arshavin believes he has become “more effective” since joining Arsenal – even if the Russian playmaker feels he is now “less sparkling”.
The 29-year-old has been something of an enigma for the Gunners since his £15million arrival from Zenit St Petersburg during January 2009.
Capable of moments of sheer genius – including a memorable four-goal salvo at Liverpool – Arshavin has also been a great source of frustration for Gunners fans as he often drifts in and out of matches.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger feels much of that malaise was down to a combination of bitter disappointment at Russia missing out on qualification for the World Cup as well as a string of niggling injuries.
Arshavin has impressed during the opening three matches of the new Premier League season, netting two goals – including the winner at Blackburn last weekend.
The Russian admits he is puzzled by his inconsistencies.
“The year and a half in England has significantly changed me,” Arshavin told Russian newspaper Sport-Express.
“I became calmer, more professional and spend more time with my family.
“As for football I can say that my style has also altered – it is more effective, but less sparkling. I don’t remember when was the last time I scored a really beautiful goal.
“It is frustrating. I tried to analyse this, but can find no answers.
“It is likely that my injuries last year had an effect, because on three occasions I was out for a month, but it is feeble to talk about injuries.”
The Gunners currently sit second in the table, two points behind champions Chelsea who have opened with an impressive three straight victories.
Much was made of the way Arsenal came through a test of character up at Ewood Park before the international break. With the Champions League campaign kicking off later this month, there will be plenty more challenges ahead before Wenger takes his men to Stamford Bridge on October 3 in the showdown with their title rivals.
The Gunners have never been short on attacking firepower, with rejuvenated England forward Theo Walcott having scored four goals already.
However, the defence has been less than watertight in recent seasons, with new arrivals Sebastien Squillaci and Laurent Koscielny looking to make sure there is no repeat of the 41 league goals conceded last term.
Centre-back Thomas Vermaelen is in no doubt where Arsenal’s championship challenge must begin.
“It sounds silly, but as a defender you are happier after a 6-0 win with the clean sheet than if you have scored one goal but you concede two,” the Belgian international told Arsenal TV Online.
“Maybe for some people they are not happy to hear that, but for me the most important thing is to defend and to defend as a team as well, and then we will get further as a team.
“If we defend first then we can win games. After that we will see.”
Arsenal lost striker Robin van Persie to an ankle problem at Ewood Park, but hope the Holland striker – who missed six months of the last campaign through injury – will only be sidelined for a couple of weeks.
Winger Samir Nasri could make a quicker-than-expected return from his minor knee operation, perhaps even in time to face Bolton on September 11.
However, it remains to be seen when Denmark forward Nicklas Bendtner will fully recover from his niggling groin problem, which has sidelined him since the World Cup.
