Gomes loving life at Spurs
Spurs goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes believes that the feel-good factor around White Hart Lane can inspire the team to glory both at home and abroad this season.
Tottenham finished fourth in the Premier League last term and secured their place amongst Europe’s elite by qualifying for the Champions League group stages.
Manager Harry Redknapp then managed to secure the signing of Dutch maestro Rafael van der Vaart for an apparent bargain £8million.
When the players return from international duty they will be looking to bounce back from a disappointing home defeat to Wigan in their last match.
They travel to West Brom on Saturday 11th September and Spurs can be backed at 1.90 (Full Time Result) to secure victory, with the Baggies 3.75 and the draw 3.25.
Following the match at the Hawthorns they have the small matter of a European trip to Werder Bremen and a Carling Cup clash against old rivals Arsenal to focus on.
Brazilian keeper Gomes feels White Hart Lane is a good place to be at the moment.
“I love the atmosphere here,” Gomes said in the September edition of the official club magazine Hotspur.
“I try to build a good relationship with the supporters because I like to feel together as one with them. They make the club what it is.”
Gomes continued: “We operate in a very good atmosphere and that can only help.
“It ensures team unity and with it a feeling that anything and everything is possible. The team spirit here is great.
“It has to be that way because the Premier League is so tough. You must band together to succeed.”

Van der Vaart delighted to join Spurs

Rafael van der Vaart cannot wait to get started for his new club after his £8million transfer from Real Madrid to Tottenham was confirmed on Wednesday.

I want to play football again and if possible every week, with a beautiful club.
Rafael van der Vaart
The 27-year-old’s move took just a couple of hours to complete and he was in as much of a daze as the Spurs fans after the Premier League sanctioned his whirlwind transfer.
Van der Vaart, deemed surplus to requirements at the Bernabeu, told De Telegraaf: “Four years at Spurs, for 11million euros, I can hardly believe it myself.
“The interest from Tottenham came very quick and I did not have much time to think.
“But I want to play football again and if possible every week, with a beautiful club. I’m totally happy.
“I am excited about playing in England. Whether it suits my style remains to be seen, but I think a good footballer can adapt and I am very proud of this transfer.”
Van der Vaart should go straight into the Spurs squad to face West Brom on Saturday week. Full Time Result betting has the Baggies at 3.40 to get the win, with Tottenham 2.00 and the draw 3.30.
Spurs had been sweating on clearance to bring the Holland midfielder to White Hart Lane after technical difficulties hampered their efforts to submit the relevant paperwork for the signing before Tuesday’s 6pm transfer deadline.
But after an investigation by the Premier League into the claims they ratified the transfer.
That allowed Tottenham to announce the signing less than two hours before top-flight clubs had to submit their 25-man squads for the first half of the league season.
Harry Redknapp had claimed that Van der Vaart had been set to join Bayern Munich for £18million on Monday until the move broke down, but this has been denied by Real.
Madrid’s sports director Miguel Pardeza told the club’s website, realmadrid.com: “It is absolutely false that Real Madrid received a 21million euro offer from Bayern Munich for Van der Vaart.
“In fact, the German team never showed an interest to sign the player, so the allegations made in England have greatly surprised us.”
The midfielder helped Holland reach the World Cup final this summer but struggled to make an impact at Real after two seasons at the club.
He has won 83 caps for Holland, scoring 16 goals and has represented his country at two European Championships and two World Cups.
Tottenham are 3.50 to finish in the top four of the Premier League 2010/11.

Spurs confirm Van der Vaart signing
Tottenham have confirmed the signing of Rafael van der Vaart from Real Madrid after the Premier League gave the green light for the transfer.
Spurs had been sweating on clearance to finalise the £8million deal for the 27-year-old after technical difficulties prevented them from submitting the relevant paperwork before yesterday’s 6pm transfer deadline.
But after investigating the club’s claims that there were difficulties involving computer servers used in the transaction between themselves and Real, the Premier League ratified the signing.
The Premier League said in a statement: “The Premier League can confirm the transfer of Rafael van der Vaart’s registration from Real Madrid to Tottenham Hotspur.”
Van der Vaart could now go straight into the squad to face West Brom in their next Premier League game on 11th September. Spurs are 2.00 (Full Time Result) to get the away win, while the Baggies are 3.40 and the draw 3.30.
Tottenham announced: “We are delighted to announce that we have reached agreement with Real Madrid for the transfer of Rafael van der Vaart.”
Manager Harry Redknapp had stated that he did not expect to make any signings on deadline day but Spurs signed two, and Redknapp revealed he was alerted to Van der Vaart’s availability just two hours before the window closed.
The transfer of the Dutch midfielder had to be confirmed by the FA by 5pm today in order for the player to be included in Spurs 25-man squad for the first half of the Barclays Premier League season.

Baggies bring back Fortune
West Brom have re-signed striker Marc-Antoine Fortune on an initial two year deal from Celtic.
The French-Guyana forward has ended a somewhat turbulent year at Celtic to join the Baggies where he spent a successful five month loan spell during their last Premier League campaign.
Fortune scored 12 goals in 43 appearances for Celtic following his £3.8 million transfer from Nancy, and despite a slow start to his Parkhead career was beginning to win the fans around with his hard working displays.
West Brom manager Roberto Di Matteo is delighted to have secured the signature of Fortune. Speaking on the club’s official website he said: “The great thing about this signing is that it won’t take him long to settle in because he knows the club inside out. He also knows what this league is all about.
“Marco got on really well with the other players during his loan here and they’re all delighted to see him back.
“He is a powerful striker who can hold the ball up and bring others into play and having also signed Peter Odemwingie last week, we now have plenty of competition up front.”
West Brom have registered the player in time to play in Sunday’s difficult match away at Liverpool, subject to international clearance. The Baggies know they will face a tough task to come away from Anfield with any points but should go there full of confidence on the back of victories against Sunderland and Leyton Orient.
Liverpool are clear favourites for the match and can be backed at 1.22 Full Time Result, whilst newly promoted West Brom are available at 15.00 with the draw 10.00.

Fortune favours return to Albion
West Brom have signed Marc-Antoine Fortune from Celtic on a two-year deal – just 14 months since the forward ended a loan spell at the club.
Fortune netted five goals in 18 appearances for the Baggies on loan from Nancy in the second half of their last Premier League campaign in 2009 before being reunited with Tony Mowbray after the manager moved to Celtic Park.
Fortune struggled to live up to his £3.8million price tag, although he was not helped by a knee injury early in his Parkhead career, and failed to win a trophy.
He netted 12 goals in 43 matches and began to win fans over with his all-round play but he has become the latest victim of Neil Lennon’s rebuilding job and completes a move back to the Black Country for a reported fee of £2.5million.
The French-Guyana forward has been registered in time to play in Sunday’s clash at Liverpool, subject to international clearance, and West Brom manager Roberto Di Matteo is delighted.
He told the club’s official website: “I’m delighted to welcome Marco back to the club.
“The great thing about this signing is that it won’t take him long to settle in because he knows the club inside out. He also knows what this league is all about.
“Marco got on really well with the other players during his loan here and they’re all delighted to see him back.
“He is a powerful striker who can hold the ball up and bring others into play and having also signed Peter Odemwingie last week, we now have plenty of competition up front.”
Fortune joins former Lokomotiv Moscow forward Odemwingie, who hit the winner against Sunderland last weekend, in signing for the club this summer alongside Boaz Myhill, Nicky Shorey, Gabriel Tamas, Somen Tchoyi, Pablo Ibanez and Steven Reid.
