London Road set for revamp

London Road will have a new stand in place by mid-2013 as part of a stadium revamp, Peterborough City Council has revealed.

Peterborough’s stadium was bought by the council in an £8million deal in January, with plans now underfoot to begin the first phase of the venue’s redevelopment.

The Moy’s End of the ground will be demolished at the end of the current campaign, with a new building and stand to be constructed in its place by the end of the 2012-13 season.

“I would like to thank the City Council and its business partners for all the help and support they have given in making this phase one project happen,” chief executive Bob Symns told the club’s official website.

“The football club will be involved with the new partners in an ongoing capacity that will be of benefit to the community and hopefully our supporters as we move forward.”

Dale happy to keep Dawson

Rochdale believe Craig Dawson’s loan spell at Spotland will allow the club time to find a suitable replacement.

The highly-rated defender has joined West Brom for an undisclosed fee but will spend the remainder of the season on loan at Spotland.

Garlick says Dale will search for another defender in the coming months ahead of Dawson’s move to the Hawthorns next season.

Dale chief executive Colin Garlick said: “A key part of this deal taking place with West Brom at this time was the agreement that Craig would come back to us immediately on loan for the full season without a recall.

“This gives us a player that we know well and who is very important in what we are looking to achieve this season and it also gives us almost 12 months to find a suitable replacement for Craig.”

Owls boss remains positive

Manager Alan Irvine will not let Sunday’s defeat at Brentford deflect from Sheffield Wednesday’s impressive start.

The Owls lost for the first time in League One this season when Charlie MacDonald’s goal just before half-time put paid to their unbeaten run and secured Brentford their opening win.

Irvine said: “If I’d have been offered top of the league after five games I would have taken it.

“I was obviously hoping we’d get something, but we haven’t done.

“But we can’t let this defeat suggest that we’ve had a terrible start to the season because we haven’t.”

Wednesday face second-placed Carlisle at Hillsborough next Saturday in a top-of-the-table clash and Irvine added: “It’s vitally important that we respond in the right way. We can’t let this result affect us, we have to bounce back.”

Thirlwell bigs up Owls clash

Carlisle skipper Paul Thirlwell is relishing Saturday’s top-of-the-table clash at leaders Sheffield Wednesday.

The Owls remain top of League One despite Sunday’s 1-0 defeat at Brentford, while Carlisle’s goalless home draw with Swindon was enough to lift them into second place.

Thirlwell said: “It’s set things up really nicely for next week now. It’s going to be a great experience for the lads, especially the younger players, to go to a great stadium and play in front of a big crowd.

“We know there’s going to be a big following of our fans there too and we hope we can keep this run going for them.

“As long as we keep picking up points, we’re going to find ourselves in and around the place we want to be.”

Thirlwell added: “We can be really pleased with how we’ve done so far this season, but there’s still plenty of work to be done.”

Terriers face Naysmith wait

Huddersfield are waiting to learn the timescale of Gary Naysmith’s injury after being told the defender requires surgery.

The Scotland international sustained a toe injury in last month’s 5-1 Carling Cup defeat at Everton and has missed the last two matches.

Terriers manager Lee Clark has confirmed Naysmith, 31, needs an operation, but is still waiting for the specialist’s report.

Huddersfield pulled off a coup when Naysmith opted to drop down a division to join them on a free transfer this summer instead of renewing his contract at Sheffield United.

But his loss has been softened by the form of teenager Liam Ridehalgh, who has impressed against Charlton and Bournemouth after stepping in as cover.
